Umbria known as the green heart of Italy with its rambling hills covered in dense forests is possibly less famous than its cousin, Tuscany, but as beautiful and with as much ancient history. Never ending vistas across the valleys, olive groves, ancient churches visible from far away are the scenes that await you and which we love to include in our wedding films set in Umbria.

We are often amazed at the places our clients bring us to and in this instance, amazed and pleasantly surprised after driving for some time following the GPS which took us up a steep hill and around many bends we arrived at Nikis Resort. An unusual name for an Italian countryside farmhouse, but this one was named after a family member, Niki. It’s a beautiful wedding venue with a deconsecrated chapel and a few frescoes here and there to remind you of its history. A restored farmhouse, today a stylish country-style hotel is run by the charming Matteo and his family with rooms overlooking an endless valley, lavender waving in the wind, the sparkling pool down below. Heaven. (Plus, bring big blow up swans for added pool pleasure as our client did!)

Italy is all about food and Umbria is definitely one of the epicentres of good food. They believe in home-grown, home-made, home-cured, and so the words organic, locally sourced, freshly harvested come to mind. Umbria is known for its prosciutto (cured meats) and excellent wines but honestly, anything from Umbria is delicious. I must put in a good word here for the catering at Nikis Resort. The food at this wedding was exceptional.

An open air buffet table was laid out as the sun was setting for the guests’ apperitivi. One long wedding table for the dinner, beautifully set, positioned the length of the farmhouse, styled in the way of an Italian family – all together. Laughter, lanterns and love everywhere. If a memorable meal is high on your list of priorities, then this could be a good choice.

David and I spend a bit of prep time in advance of a wedding exploring the area to get “the mood” understand the light and also explore other locations for drone shots and the couple shoot. On a meander one evening exploring the cobbled alleyways of Montone we came upon the restaurant ….

Tipico Osteria dei Sensi.

“By far one of the best food experiences we’ve ever had in Italy, a total stand out meal noted for its exceptional attention to detail in the food preparation and kind service. From the warm welcome, to the owner’s detailed explanations of every single dish and the fabulous fresh local ingredients you’re set for an unforgettable meal in a charming location. The owner’s pride and passion for the local cuisine that he produces from only locally sourced ingredients just shines through”. (My Tripadvisor review, June 2017)

Go there and enjoy
