MENTORSHIP

So why did you decide to go on this particular journey of mentoring other wedding videographers in fact your competitors, some new to the industry and some already established?
I guess I can answer that with a one word answer, passion and if asked to elaborate further I would say that there seems to be a significant need from fellow wedding videographers in the industry.

Over the years I have been approached by many men and women wishing to assist me at weddings or take them on as interns. This is all very positive but can it truly be practical and beneficial to both parties, the short answer is simply no! There is absolutely nothing you can learn when thrown in the deep end at a wedding and can leave you stressed out and disillusioned at the end of the day. Interns are what I would call those actually wanting mentorship and that’s what I’m offering.

TESTIMONIALS

Gustav Franke

“David is an exceptional filmmaker and storyteller. Another strength of his is imparting this knowledge and wisdom to others. With over ten years of experience capturing weddings, David inspired me to dream bigger with my wedding videography business and helped me view it as more than just a passion. I learnt while shooting with him just how meticulous he is, and how this is one of the reasons he has been a leading wedding videographer for so many years. This certainly gave me a lot of respect for what it really takes to shoot wedding films of the highest quality. He even gave me the opportunity to capture two weddings with him as a second shooter in Italy, where he introduced new challenges that await destination wedding videographers and showed how to handle those skillfully. It’s been three years that I’ve shot weddings now, and David was there from the beginning up until now, always generous in giving insight and guidance where needed. I’d highly recommend him as a mentor, whether you’re an experienced filmmaker, or a total beginner. He’ll save you lots of money, and most importantly, time.”

“I started working with David during the early stages of the pandemic. An extremely trying time for the industry and all involved. Regardless, David took me under his wing and trusted me with the responsibility of second shooting for him. I could not have asked for a better opportunity to build the foundations of my own career. His professionalism from the outset is something I still admire to this day. As with his wedding films, he makes sure he leaves no detail untouched. David was always very open to sharing his knowledge, showing me all the ins and outs of filming on the day. Which pieces of equipment matter, how to allocate my time, when to focus on pushing the creative envelop and when to honour the client expectations. With his guidance I have saved myself years of trial and error. A more valuable mentor in a such a competitive industry would be hard to find.”
