The castle
You will be blown away by this ancient, romantic Italian castle dating back to 500AD with a medieval tower on the shores of the lake. Original cobblestone pathways wind their way up to the huge double-doors and the signature Venetian style crenellations on parapets high above reminding us of Venetian rule. When it comes to hosting a wedding here, the endless views and mountain backdrop including the majestic Monte Baldo at 2218m altitude set a breathtaking scene.
The Castello Scaligero or Scaliger Castle in Malcesine is a unique wedding venue which provides an ideal outdoor space for your ceremony. As a wedding filmmaker we love locations that provide spectacular content for your wedding video.

If you want to add real Italian flavour to your wedding day the ceremony could be conducted by the local mayor, the Sindaco who arrives dressed in a well-cut dark suit, paired with a trademark red, white and green sash. This is very mayoral, really authentic authoritative Italian. Of course this would then be a civil wedding ceremony conducted in Italian. If you prefer an English speaker or in another language a registered wedding celebrant could conduct the event.

With this setting, all you now need to complete the picture are the musicians, simple but pretty flowers or some greenery and guests. This being such a fantastic location it doesn’t need much wedding décor at all.

After your ceremony do what our charming Scottish bride Gemma, with her flowing locks and Gordon, her kilted groom did. Together with a Scottish piper and guests they set off on a walkabout down the steps from the Castle, through the historic old town of Malcesine towards an awaiting surprise.

With cheers they were applauded by bystanders (Italians LOVE weddings) clapping and snapping away on their phones all the way to the magnificent restored sailing vessel, the Siora Veronica which was waiting to whisk them away. This couple had arranged for their guests to enjoy sunset canapés under full sail whilst they headed to the wedding reception further up the lake in Riva del Garda.

The boat was launched in 1927 as a barge that carried passengers and goods (locally made olive oil and wine) up and down the length of the lake before the first roads were built. She is a beautifully restored, 24-meter/79-foot two-mast gaff schooner with glorious sails when cruising.
